In September, it is very clear the fall season is in full swing with
changes. Did you know that monarch butterflies are in flight and heading south all the way to Mexico.
On Week 1, we decided to celebrate butterflies when we created the Scented Butterfly Activity. Angela Hutton stopped in for a visit and showed us the word butterfly by using our hands. After opening the swag bag, we received a slap-stick bracelet, and of course, had to do a little measuring to complete one of the tasks on the September Bucket List.
On Week 2, a fun game of BINGO got underway that celebrated important dates in the month of September. Great job Khahn, for winning the game! It is true, we can’t say the word September without thinking of warm delicious pie. Lucky for us, everyone received all the ingredients to make a mini version apple pie with
activity “Apple Pie Mug Cake.”
October, the month of full moons, scented autumn leaves rustling around under our feet. A cool chill in the air, that made you want to sleep like a bear! Not for our afterschool bunch, sleeping was the last thing on their minds. The group was busy learning about OWLS, believe me, and it was such a HOOT as Ms. H would say!
On Week 1, we recycled cupcake holders into the Cupcake Owl Activity! Did you know? Owls can almost turn their heads 360 degrees. Go ahead and give it a try!
Week 2, we turned a ball of squishing clay and 10 toothpicks into hedgehogs when we assembled the Library Hedgehog Activity. Did you Know? When hedgehogs are out to forage in the evening, they can travel for up to 2 miles, that’s a long way for little legs! They also get their name because they live in hedges!
Week 3, it is ALWAYS a good time getting to know each other and why not with a little game of the Jack-O-Glyph Game Activity. Kahn and Matthew like scary movies, BUT Charles and a few others do not!
The Jack 0 Lantern Glyph Game Activity
Week 4 is smothered with yummy goodness. This week, we learned all about bones when we mixed the Bones Activity. Also, added in the Spider Tootsie Pop Activity. Listen to this fact, we have over 206 bones in our body, but Rebecca has an extra 3.
Crafting Your Story After School Program is filled with jokes, laughter, creativity, challenges, learning about did-you-know facts, games, guests and of course books. This month our After School Program featured a very special guest, Nancy Corona all the way from Neil Smith Refuge.
Week 1, the month was filled with gratitude and thankfulness! Tradition is a large part of this after school program! We gathered strips of paper and added a message of gratitude as they became connected all together throughout the month of November. We also mixed, pipe cleaners, colorful beads and created the Colorful Indian Corn Activity! Did you know that each ear of corn grown is not like the other? They are all uniquely designed just like all of you!
Thankfulness + Gratitude Chain Activity
Week 2, freshly scented pinecones were turned into the Pinecone Thanksgiving Day Turkey Activity! Listen to this, pinecones can stay on a tree for up to 10 years and over 65 million years ago dinosaurs loved to munch on pinecones? Just remember, part of what we do is learn something new!

Week 3 games were on our mind. November is national button month and we celebrated buttons by playing a game. Each player received a button game piece and patterned numbered gameboard. As the dice was rolled, the buttons were on the move. It was a blast playing the game, Move that Button Challenge! After the last number was called a winner was named.
National Button Day: Move that Button Game
Week 4, we enjoyed putting together a tasty snack called Pudding Snack Turkey Treat as everyone shared all the messages written on their gratitude chains.
