The Blind Kitchen Recap:

Last Thursday, our Thrive Thursday Career Lab Series welcomed the incredibly inspiring Chef Debra Erickson, founder of The Blind Kitchen. Debra shared her powerful journey of navigating vision loss later in life, working with a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) counselor, and ultimately launching her own successful business. She highlighted brilliant adaptive culinary strategies, such as always including parents when training youth to build family-wide confidence for independent cooking. Debra also showcased some game-changing accessibility tools, including a voice-operated smart air fryer and high-contrast black and white Work Trays that keep ingredients contained and easy to transport. We are overjoyed by the practical tools and deep inspiration Debra brought to our community, proving that anyone can find a way to relate to her story of resilience.
