As a college student or vocational trainee, you are responsible for requesting course materials from the Instructional Materials Center (IMC). It is important to gather all necessary information and provide it to the IMC as early as possible.
To find out which books your classes require, consult the college bookstore, ask your professors, or reach out to the department secretaries. Start collecting this information as soon as you know the classes you will be taking.
Please note that the IMC needs your textbook order at least two to three months before your class begins. Click here to complete the college materials online order form for Braille, audio, or electronic college textbooks. This advance notice allows staff to search for the book and start transcribing it if it is not already available.
The IMC requires the following information, typically found on the title and copyright pages of the book:
- Title
- Subtitle
- Author
- Publisher
- Copyright year
- ISBN (International Standard Book Number)
- Detailed Pacing Guide Information from the teacher including print page ranges, chapters/units, dates needed for class
Once your book search is conducted by the IMC staff, your librarian will contact you with the results. You may be asked if a different edition would be acceptable, in which case your instructor can assist you in making that decision.
If you prefer to receive your textbooks in an electronic format other than .brf, the Students with Disabilities Office at your college can request other formats from the publisher. The college disability office needs to complete an e-text permissions form and send it to the publisher, who typically provides files in MS Word, PDF, or another agreed-upon format.
