Eva’s father is taken by the German soldiers. After watching her father being arrested, Eva and her mother are determined to leave France for Switzerland. Eva’s father had told Eva before he was rounded up that Monsieur Goujon would help her. When she goes to Goujon, he gives her items to help her forge documents to leave the country. Eva does as Goujon suggested and makes documents to get them out of the country. She and her mother make their way to Aurignon, in the free zone of France and several miles from the Swiss border. There Eva comes to work for a priest forging documents to get people across the border to Switzerland. Eva becomes adept at her work and even comes up with ways to speed up the process. Eva is always aware of the danger she has put herself in, and is on the lookout for someone who might give her and her companions away. If you are interested in this true aspect of World War II this is interesting historical fiction.
The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni DBC00304
Sam Hill was born with Ocular Albinism. He has red eyes. He is bullied throughout his school career, but he has two good friends, who are also outcasts for their own reasons. His mother is deeply religious and believes everything is God’s will. His parents keep Sam grounded and he at the top of his class. He becomes an ophthalmologist and travels the world helping others with vision problems. He meets Fernando, an orphan, who has the same albinism as he has and chooses to adopt him. This is such a heartwarming story about love and resilience. Anyone who has been picked on can relate to the story.
The First Gentleman by James Patterson and Bill Clinton DB130125
Maddy Wright is the first female president of the United States. Her husband, Cole Wright, First Gentleman is an ex-New England Patriots football player. He was the former boyfriend of New England Patriot cheerleader, Suzanne Bonanno who disappeared. He is accused of murdering her. While his wife deals with an international crisis, Wright is put on trial. The First Gentleman insists he is innocent. the trial is mainly built on circumstantial evidence. Maddy is worried that for the first time in history that the spouse of a president will go to prison. This is the third book that James Patterson and Bill Clinton have written together.
