May Makerspace Monday Recap and What’s Next = Summer Reading Program

Makerspace Monday @ The PlaygroundWe did it! The May’s Makerspace Bowl Stamping Workshop was a success! We rolled nearly 1 pound of airdry clay into what appeared to be a delicious, tasty pie crust. We smooshed and squished until finishing up with the perfect thickness and began to add our mark! This was the best part of the night; we pressed each stamp and danced each style all over the top! With the help of our cereal bowl transformed flatten clay into a bowl of its own.

This time together has come to a quiet halt but will start back up on September 12th. We will have fresh new ideas, and maybe a few of our favorites from the past.

In the meantime, our Summer Reading Program sign up is open!

April Makerspace Monday Recap and What’s Next

Makerspace Monday @ The PlaygroundDelicious chocolate covered pretzels were enjoyed as a snack when we made discoveries that took place over 6,000 years ago. Did you know that Plaster of Paris got its name because the material called gypsum used in it is abundant in Paris. It is also used to help heal broken bones. Wow, who knew that? But on this night, we whipped and mixed water and Plaster of Paris to make a plant holder for our little succulent plant! As the evening ended, we put our spur wheels into a spinning roll and created metal art tooling, which by the way, is originated from Mexico! The artistic juices were flowing!

Coming up next month, Bowl Stamping! This has never been done before at our youth library, so you don’t want to miss out. By adding in your unique touch, not only will texture be added with a stamp, but your finished art piece can also be used to hold your very special treasure or souvenirs from the past.

March Makerspace Recap and What’s Next

Makerspace Monday @ The PlaygroundMarch Makerspace Workshop was truly a gem of a good time. Sam and Amunique were able to create their incredible canvas art. They were introduced to a few new art techniques. Sprinkles of sparkle, textures of burlap added, and a rainbow blend of puffy paint dolloped each of their priceless designs. Oh, my we can’t forget about the gold foil. Thank you again to all the families that sent in your pictures from home!

Also, in March, we discovered how to do metal tooling, which by the way is metal art originated from Mexico. Have you ever heard of embossing 30-gauge aluminum foil into a smiley face? Well, if you signed up for March’s Makerspace you did. Each stylish metal art was hung by a string of beads with design.

Coming up next month, you don’t want to miss out on this, we are making Plaster of Paris Plant Holders. In celebration of spring, it is time to start planting and taking in the fresh scents of flowers in the air! How do we get ready for such an occasion, by making a Plaster of Paris Plant Holder but of course. Get Ready for a little mixing!

February Makerspace Monday Recap and What’s Next

Makerspace Monday @ The PlaygroundFebruary’s Makerspace Monday was joined by a very special guests, Jill Wells and Ava. We were all surrounded by a rainbow of colors and textured flowers. It felt like spring was right around the corner. Everyone had fun adding their own designs featuring the Makerspace I AM Skywalk Activation Project workshop! Flowers were added to Styrofoam letters, I. A.M.

After the Makerspace creatives had completed their portion of the I AM Project, Ava and Jill will put all the pieces together. Two 4’ x 5’ canvases. Each canvas will have the “I AM” braille quotes printed out and adhered to the surface of each canvas. One canvas, painted in beautiful, blue jewel tones and braille “I AM” quotes only on the surface. One canvas, painted in beautiful, blue jewel tones with braille “I AM” quotes only on the surface AND floral “I AM ” letters adhered to the canvas surface, above the braille text. Both canvases will be sealed with epoxy resin, so they can be touched by the observer and read. This project is designed to be a sensory, interactive set of works.
