Searching the Online Catalog

Library

National Literacy Month continues for another week! At the library, we’re excited to join in this celebration by highlighting a resource that puts thousands of books right at your fingertips—our Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). Are you wondering what the Iowa Library for the Blind has in its collection? The online catalog is great place to find out!

How to Start

  • Go to our blog: iowalibrary.blog.
  • Select the link: Browse Our Library Catalog.
  • Enter a keyword, book title, or author in the search box.
  • Press the Go button.

Your search results will show items in all formats. Formats include Digital Books (audiobooks), Braille, Large Type (large print), Print/Braille (Twin Vision).

Narrow Your Search by Format

  • From your results page, go to Options Selected.
  • Choose Media.
  • Select your format: Digital Books, Braille, Large Type, or Print/Braille.

Place a Hold

  • On the results list, select the Hold button for the book you want.
  • If you are not logged in, the system will ask you to sign in.
  • When it asks for a Hold Note, just press Hold. A note is not needed.
  • If you are viewing the book details (for example, the summary), the Hold option will be under Actions.
