Each Friday the Instructional Materials Center Team will provide answers to questions asked by educators throughout the week in the IMC FAQ Friday post. We hope these are helpful as schools place orders for students who need accessible educational materials.
The Instructional Materials Center assists college students in obtaining accessible educational materials. Students are responsible for requesting materials for class and need to start gathering this information as soon as they know what classes they are taking.
The IMC needs to have your textbook order a minimum of two to three months before your class starts. Complete a college materials online order form at Post-Secondary Materials Information – Iowa Library for the Blind to request braille, large print, audio, or electronic college textbooks. This will give staff time to search for the book and to have the first part of it transcribed, if it is not already available. The IMC needs the following information:
· Title
· Subtitle
· Author
· Publisher
· Copyright year
· ISBN (International Standard Book Number)
· Detailed Pacing Guide Information from the teacher including print page ranges, chapters/units, dates needed for class
After IMC staff have conducted a search for your book, your IMC librarian will contact you with the results. The college is responsible for paying the cost of acquiring accessible educational materials.
