Summer Reading Program
June 6th – July 29th Virtually Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 1:00pm – 1:45pm
For youth (0 – 18 years old)
This Summer Reading Program will have 24 sensational programs full of crafts, food, science, adventure and tons of fun and laughter!
- Mondays – Double Craft Mondays
- Wednesdays – Story Prompt Wednesday
- Fridays – Food Frenzy Fridays
Get ready to meet an author reading from his very own book. Have you ever thought of mailing a coconut as a postcard, well, that is how they do it in Hawaii? Or, how about the delicious scent of Orange Cream Cake being cooked right in your very own kitchen. You will also discover how a rock is formed by eating your way through Starburst Candies or discover how to eat and make edible crayons. That is right, edible crayons, imagine that!
Upon sign up participants will receive:
- a TEAM Summer t-shirt personalized with your name in Braille or Large Print
- passes to the Blank Park Zoo
- a 9-piece puzzle set [which by the way, if all the pieces are earned you win a grand prize]
- Braille Uno Game cards
- and other prizes you will have to wait and see.

When Story Time Comes to You Program at Iowa Public Libraries
Denise Bean, Youth Service Librarian, is providing an amazing program throughout the year through a great partnership with Iowa’s public libraries. Denise shares the program When Story Time Comes to You in public libraries providing participants of all ages with a fun introduction to braille, the story of Louis Braille, hands-on activities and games. Participants are provided with braille activities to take home and public libraries are provided with braille information and a print/braille book to add to their collection. Books for Kids During the Summer
Thinking ahead to summer? If your students are signed up ONLY to receive Books for Kids at school, maybe it is time to think about updating their addresses for home too! Books for Kids is a year around program and when it comes to reading you must keep the reading momentum going strong! To make this process a little easier a checklist has been created.
Who qualifies for the Books for Kids Program? It is a program for kids’ birth through 18 years old to access monthly reading materials in the format that is best for them. If a student is not part of the Books for Kids Program, no worries, just fill out our easy ONLINE registration.
- If your student is NOT a library patron: Fill out our online Library Application. An application must be filled out in order to be a Books for Kids participant.
- If your student is a library patron: Fill out the Online Registration for the Books for Kids program.
