Imc Information

Early Braille Readers and Spacing

The Weekly Dose of Braille is created by our Youth Services Librarian and Braille Transcriber, Denise Bean, with the help of our Instructional Materials team. It gives you a taste of braille examples that may be used in worksheets or textbook formatting.  It is a miscellaneous mixture of tricky, sometimes challenging circumstances, that a braille transcriber may come across or question.  Provided each week is a downloadable PDF file on each topic, a brf file can also be made available for your convenience.

Braille transcribers who have transcribed for years, understand formats for spacing, but when it comes to early readers, such as kindergarten and first grade, taking time to look up proper formatting is only natural. Hope this week’s question is helpful, it also will provide access to downloading the BANA Guidelines for the Transcriptions of Early Education Materials PDF.

“This fall, I need to get a few worksheets ready for a new student in first grad who reads braille, can you tell me where to find information about spacing for the different younger grades?”
