What do poison dart frogs, the Amazon rainforest, and NASA space telescopes have in common?
They are all part of a day’s work for Dr. Michael “Bec” Bechtel, Professor of Science Education at Wartburg College! We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Bechtel has agreed to join us virtually to share his incredible stories, his passion for living things, and his adventures exploring the earth and beyond.
Whether you are a nature lover, a space enthusiast, or just plain curious, you will want to mark your calendar for this out-of-this-world presentation.
Topics May Include:
- His lifelong passion for living creatures (biophilia), including his live campus menagerie of giant tortoises and dart frogs, as well as his recent research expeditions deep into the Amazon rainforest.
- His work with the NASA/IPAC Teacher Archive Research Program. He was part of a team that used NASA’s brand-new SPHEREx space telescope to peer through massive cosmic dust clouds and track down “YSOs” (Young Stellar Objects, otherwise known as baby stars!).
Bring your curiosity, your imagination, and your biggest science questions!
