Andrew Bridge spent eleven and a half years in the foster care system in California. He lived with one family the entire time and they did not treat him as a member of the family. He had trouble making friends and avoided people who might ask about his family. He worked hard in school and got good grades and went on to college and then law school. As a lawyer he specializes in child advocacy.

This is a dark tale that takes place in Minnesota. Clara, the minister’s wife is the substitute teacher of the student who commits the murder. The student’s father, Grizz is grief stricken trying to understand what came over his son and why he would do such a thing. There are many secrets in this book and it is interlaced with stories Clara’s father told her as a child. This was an All Iowa Reads book in 2014.

There was a shooting at the mall. Reed survived by hiding in kiosk. Simone and her friends were in the movie theater. Simone had gotten up to use the restroom. She hid in the bathroom and was the first caller to 911. Years later, someone is tracking down survivors and killing them. Both Reed and Simone are targets. What can they do to prevent themselves from being part of the kill list?
