2026 Iowa Regional Braille Challenge!

Library

The 20th Annual Iowa Regional Braille Challenge is on February 14, 2026! The Braille Challenge is a program of the Braille Institute of America, Inc. and is the only academic competition of its kind for students who are blind or visually impaired. Developed by the Braille Institute 25 years ago, the program inspires students to practice and strengthen their braille literacy skills, which are vital to academic and career success.

Any student who is blind or with low vision in grades 1 – 12 who can read and write braille is eligible to participate in the Braille Challenge. Again this year, there will be the Foundational Group which welcomes students at any grade level, including preschool and kindergarten, to participate. So, no matter your braille skills, please join us for this fun day of Braille!

The theme for 2026 is Love, Braille.  This year following the competition there will be a Valentine’s Party that will include crafts, snacks and fun!

Participants can register for the Braille Challenge here. The deadline has been extended to Friday, January 30, 2026. We hope to see you there!
