We are excited to be gearing up for another Braille Challenge! This year’s theme is “Braille is Beautiful.”

The Iowa Braille Challenge will be held on Saturday, February 24 at the Iowa Department for the Blind in Des Moines. Registration packets were mailed out to students last week. Emails have also been sent to parents/guardians with information to register students online. The deadline for students to register is January 26.

The 2024 Braille Challenge Page has been updated with the most up to date information and registration forms. Watch for more updates about how to order this year’s Iowa Braille Challenge t-shirt.

This year, we are offering a Braille and Tactile Workshop for parents, educators, librarians, and braille transcribers from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm during the Braille Challenge. The workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to learn more about braille, accessible educational materials, braille production and more. A hands-on activity will give participants the opportunity to create their own print/braille book and accessible activities to use at home, in the classroom or in the library.

Participants of the workshop will receive a $100 honorarium, and if you live more than 50 miles from Des Moines, you will receive a $50 travel stipend.

Please complete this registration form to get signed for the Braille and Tactile Workshop. The deadline to register is February 9.   The workshop will be open to the first 30 registrants.

The Braille Challenge kicks off with a Pep Rally at 9:30 am and concludes with an Awards Ceremony at 2:00 pm.  Please feel free to join us for those events to cheer on and congratulate the Braille Challenge participants!
