November was an exciting time @ The Playground! Amanda Drish from the Des Moines Symphony joined us for our Makerspace Monday Event, we had front row seats to the sweet sounds of Amanda’s string instruments. Not only that, but we learned all about the different pitches and tones, from very HIGH to very LOW. As an extra treat, we ended our time together with the stroke of a brush! We swirled and dabbed in paint, as we created canvas art while listening to the violin of Amanda. I must admit, that without a doubt, by far was my favorite part!
Next, on November 21st for our STEM and Stories Saturday, we warmed our hearts to the sweet smell of cinnamon! We created Cinnamon Scented Salt Dough Stars. This activity is sure to become a “new” family tradition. We learned about the meaning of tradition, while we had fun in the softness of flour. Hey, did you know that flour is made out of wheat? We mixed and measured salt with a sprinkle of cinnamon right into the mix! The playground was filled with the aroma of delicious homemade pumpkin pie!
